What does pool deck resurfacing in Indianapolis involve?
Pool deck coatings and resurfacing in Indianapolis puts a new coating or thin overlay over your existing concrete deck, so a slab that's still sound gets a fresh surface without being torn out.
Most calls start with a deck that's flaking, cracked or stained around the pool, and the first thing I look at is the slab under it, because a new surface only works on concrete that isn't moving. If it has settled badly or cracked through, no coating will fix that, and I'd rather tell you now than explain a peeling deck next year. The price moves with the deck's size, how much crack repair and old-coating removal it needs and whether you go with a coating or an overlay, and the schedule moves with the weather because we need the concrete dry. When I come out, I'll tell you which job your deck needs and write up what it'll take. If you want a thicker new surface on other outdoor concrete too, that's our concrete resurfacing and overlays work.
How do you know your pool deck needs resurfacing?
Flaking, pitted surface
If the top of the deck is coming off in flakes and leaving a rough, pitted finish, that's scaling, where the surface layer of the concrete breaks away, usually after water and winter freezes work into it. Caught early it's surface wear we can resurface over, but the longer it goes, the more of the deck has to be repaired first.
Old coating peeling up
When a coating lifts at the edges or bubbles in patches, it usually wasn't bonded to clean, sound concrete in the first place. Every season you leave it, water gets under more of it, and all of it has to come off before anything new goes down.
Cracks or sunken sections
Fine cracks across the surface are common and we can treat them, but wide cracks, slabs that have dropped or edges that rock underfoot mean the concrete is moving. That's the sign a deck may need replacing instead, and waiting usually lets the trip edges get worse in a wet, barefoot area.
How we handle pool deck coatings and resurfacing
The first question on a pool deck is resurface or replace, and the slab decides that, so I check it for settling, movement and wide cracks before we talk about finishes. If it's sound, our crew cleans the deck down to solid concrete, because a coating only holds as well as what it's stuck to. We treat the cracks next so they don't show back through the new surface, then we time the coating or overlay for a dry stretch when the concrete is dry enough to take it. If the slab isn't sound, I'll tell you that instead of coating over it.
If there's an old sealer or paint on the deck that's letting go, we take it off first with concrete floor stripping and removal, because new material bonded to a failing layer fails right along with it. Inside the house, the same prep-first approach goes into our epoxy floor coatings for garages and basements.
Acrylic deck coating
Suits a sound deck that's mostly worn, faded or stained, where you want a fresh color and texture without building up thickness. It's the lighter of the two and goes down over clean, crack-treated concrete.
Brushed concrete overlay
Suits a deck with scaling, rough spots or old patches that don't match, because a thin cement-based layer covers the whole surface and gives it a new brushed finish. Overlays are made for concrete that's solid and not moving, so the slab still has to pass my check first.

What happens after you call about your pool deck?
Here's how a pool deck job runs from your first call to the final walk-through, and who you'll deal with at each step.
Call or send a message
Call (317) 429-4446 or use the form, and we'll set a time for me to come see the deck. Photos of any cracks or flaking help me know what to look for.
I look at the deck
I check the slab, the cracks and what's on the surface now, and tell you straight whether it's a resurfacing job or a replacement. You get a written estimate that spells out what the deck needs and what it costs, so there's no guessing about the price.
We prep, coat and walk it
Our crew preps the concrete first, fixes what needs fixing and puts the surface down during a dry stretch, and I'm on the job with them. Before we leave, we walk the finished deck with you.
Why Indianapolis homeowners call Landmark Epoxy Flooring of Indianapolis for pool decks
The owner looks at your deck
I come out to see the deck and write the estimate myself, and I'm on the job with our crew when the work gets done. The person who judged your slab is the one watching it get prepped.
A concrete finisher before coatings
I spent years pouring and finishing concrete for other outfits before starting this business in 2023, and that's where I learned how a slab behaves. Around Indianapolis, winter freezes find every weak spot in a deck, and that background is how I tell a deck worth coating from one that isn't.
Licensed and fully insured
We're licensed and fully insured, so an accident on your property isn't left on you. The work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.
On a pool deck, the slab under it decides the job, so the next step is letting me look at yours. Request an estimate or call (317) 429-4446.
Pool deck resurfacing and concrete repair in Indianapolis
The city says contractors have to secure whatever permits their work requires, and that alone doesn't tell you whether your deck resurfacing needs one. So we check with the right office for your address before work starts, and if a permit is needed, we pull it ourselves. The city's Department of Business and Neighborhood Services licenses contractors for the consolidated city of Indianapolis, but its licensing doesn't cover Lawrence or Beech Grove, so on jobs there we check that city's rules instead. We're based in Indianapolis and work in the cities around it.
Winters here do most of the damage we see on pool decks, because water sits on the concrete, freezes and thaws, and works the surface loose. That's why we book outdoor coating work for a dry stretch in the warm months rather than pushing a deck into cold, wet weather.
Questions about pool deck resurfacing in Indianapolis
How do I know whether to resurface or replace my pool deck?
Resurface when the slab is stable, water drains off it reasonably well and the problem is wear on the surface. If the deck has settled a lot, has structural cracks running across it or moves, replacing it is the better money spent, because a new surface won't hold on a slab that's moving. I'll tell you which one your deck is when I look at it.
How much does pool deck resurfacing cost in Indianapolis?
An installed acrylic coating or brushed concrete overlay on a pool deck usually runs about $2 to $8 per square foot across the US, which is the going range and not our quote. Where your deck lands depends on its size, how many cracks need treating, whether an old coating has to come off and which surface you pick. I'll write up a figure for your own deck when I come out.
When is the best time to seal a pool deck in Indianapolis?
Late summer, after a few dry days, is usually the best time, because the concrete should be reasonably dry before a sealer goes on. In Indianapolis the average last spring freeze comes around April 16 and the first fall freeze around October 21, and a spring freeze has come as late as May 27, so late summer gives you warm, dry days with room before the cold.
Do I need a licensed contractor for pool deck work in Indianapolis?
Yes, the city says all contractors have to be licensed, and anyone doing construction work there has to be a listed contractor. It also warns that if you hire an unlicensed contractor, you can end up paying for costly repairs or be held liable for injuries or property damage, so ask to see the license before anyone starts.
Can a scaled or flaking pool deck be repaired?
Yes, light to moderate scaling can be repaired, but the repair is only as strong as the concrete it bonds to. Patch material won't match the color of the old concrete either, so expect repaired spots to look different unless the whole deck gets a new surface over it.
What causes a pool deck coating to peel?
Peeling usually comes from prep, most often a deck that wasn't cleaned right, cracks that were coated over or a coating put down in poor weather. The finish then peels, bubbles or wears unevenly, so before you hire anyone, ask how they'll clean your deck and what they'll do about the cracks.
